This Privacy Notice may be updated from time to time; whenever we make any changes, we will publish it on our Digital Channels and ask you to review your privacy settings before exploring Omantel’s Services.

We understand that your privacy is important to you, and we value the trust you place on us to handle your information responsibly and with care. This page provides information on how Omantel and its affiliates (collectively ”Omantel”) gather and handle your personal information Personal Information through our websites, devices, products, services, online and physical stores, and applications that reference this Privacy Notice (collectively referred to as " Omantel Services").

3 Our Commitment to Data Privacy & Data Protection

Omantel is committed to fulfilling its obligation to Process Personal Information within the limits established under the Data Privacy Law. Such Personal Data will be processed only for lawful and appropriate purposes in transparent and ethical manner that assures preserving and protecting human dignity. Omantel has implemented measures designed to secure Personal Information and to help prevent its unauthorized or accidental access, erasure, or other misuse. Omantel will facilitate the exercise of your rights effectively and transparently.

3.1 How & what data we collect about you

We collect your Process information, which can identify you either directly, or indirectly when combined with other information. Such information includes your name, identification number, contact information, location data, online identifiers (like your IP address), or any other identifiable factors (together “Personal Information”). We collect your Personal Information which enables us to provide you with our services and continually improve our offerings for you. Below are the different types of information that we collect about you when you visit our different Digital Channels for service requests.

3.1.1 Information You Provide to Us

We receive and store any information you provide to us in relation to Omantel Services. While you have the option to withhold certain information, doing so may limit your ability to fully utilize many of Omantel’s Services. Here are examples of information we collect from provided by you.

  1. Name, Contact details, Residential Address, Locations, Emails, Personal Civil ids, Gender
  2. Photographs
  3. Biometric Information like Fingerprints, Face Identification for verification

3.1.2 Automatic Information Collection

Cookies

Like many websites, we use ‘Cookies’ and other unique identifiers to gather information when your web browser or device accesses Omantel Services and other content served by or on behalf of Omantel on other websites. We automatically track your activity and collect and store certain types of information about your use of Omantel Services. This includes details about your interactions with products, content, and services available through Omantel. We can also use this information in an aggregate manner to understand how visitors navigate our site so we can make it better. We also collect usage data that includes device’s internet protocol address (IP address), the pages of our website you visit, the time and date of your visit, the amount of time spent on those pages, and additional diagnostic data.

3.1.3 Call Data Records

Customer Service Usage data is also collected automatically by the network and processed in our systems to help us fulfil service contract obligations committed to you, meeting legal requirements and continuously improve our services quality & services offerings for you.

3.1.4 Information from External Partners

Besides the personal information we collect directly from you, we may also receive information about you from our external partners or other entities where you have provided consent for your information to be shared, or as allowed or required by law. This could include updated shipping address details from our carriers to enhance the delivery of your future purchases.

We may also collect your information directly from the following mediums:

  1. Financial Info like Bank Cards etc. stored through different digital channels like Omantel app / Self Service Kiosks / Payment Machines / Wallet Apps
  2. Health info using applications under Sehati Service. Health info generated by smart wearable devices stored on phone is collected if a customer allows Omantel Sehati app / SDK to do so. The data includes number of Weight, Height, Activity Level, Exercise time, Calories, Stand time, Steps, Heartpoints, Workouts, Gender, year of birth. This information is being shared with Globant ventures who is helping Omantel to run this health program that is necessary for it to function and award the customers.
  3. Social media identities through Chatbots

3.2 Where we collect your personal information

We collect your personal information when you put a service request through any of the following Digital Channels.

  1. Omantel Retail Outlet Stores
  2. Mobile and Web Applications
  3. Omantel Call Centre
  4. When you interact with our website.
  5. 3rd party apps / SDKs embedded in Omantel App where you consent to share the information
  6. Other than personal data obtained from you directly (as detailed above), we may also obtain your personal data from external partners we deal with or relate to, and from such other sources where you have given your consent for the disclosure of information relating to you, and/or where otherwise lawfully permitted or required.

3.3 Are we collecting data from children

We do not knowingly solicit or collect or sell any personal information from or about anyone under the age of 18 including individuals deprived of, partially lacking, or lacking full capacity, without the parent/guardian’s authorization and in compliance with applicable law. Additionally, parents/guardians have the right to access and update their children’s / ward’s personal information as necessary and allowed by applicable law.

3.4 For What Purposes Does Omantel Use Your Personal Data?

We use your personal information to operate, develop, and improve the products and services that we offer to you. We also use your personal information for the following purposes:

  1. To comply with laws such as verifying your identity and fulfilling other legal obligations entrusted on us as per the government regulations.
  2. In some cases, we process your Personal Information to fulfil our obligations such as verifying your identity.
  3. To take and handle orders, deliver products and services, process payments, and to contact you or respond to you regarding matters relevant to the underlying services.
  4. To generate your bills and statements of usage for any products and services you buy from us.
  5. We process your Personal Information for the purposes of data analytics to develop innovative and customized products and services by carrying out research and statistical analysis of customer use of our network, products and services on an anonymous or pseudonymous basis. We process your Personal Information for our legitimate interests.
  6. To improve the service we provide to you and to enhance customer experience.
  7. To keep you informed about our latest products, services and offers. We also use your personal information to display interest-based advertisements for features, products, and services that might be of interest to you.
  8. To administer rewards and loyalty programs.
  9. For surveys or feedback which may be done using Email or SMS.
  10. To respond to you about any network, services, or product related queries.
  11. To carry out any activity in connection with a legal, governmental, or regulatory requirement on us or in connection with legal proceedings, crime or fraud prevention, detection or prosecution.
  12. We use your personal information to telephone directory or similar directory, or directory enquiry service provided or operated by us or by a third party (subject to your preference that you may have indicated to us in writing).
  13. To develop innovative and customized products and services by carrying out research and statistical analysis of customer use of our network, products and services on an anonymous or personalized basis.
  14. Provide such additional services or products for instance, services that use geographic location to inform you about changes to the service or product via messages and alerts
  15. Settling accounts with partners who provide related services to us

3.5 Does Omantel share your personal data?

As part of providing you with Omantel Services, we may be required or need to disclose Personal Information about you to the following third parties:

  • Law enforcement agencies or any competent authority: We may disclose your Personal Information, including details about your use of Omantel services, to government entities or any other competent authority if: (i) it is legally required; (ii) it is essential to protect or defend our rights or assets; (iii) we determine that a breach of our terms, policies, or applicable laws has occurred; (iv) it aids in detecting or preventing fraud or unlawful actions; (v) it ensures the safety, security, and integrity of our products, employees, users, or the public; or (vi) it mitigates potential legal liabilities.
  • Third-Party Vendors: We will provide you with services, products, or applications that may be provided by third parties, companies, and/or organizations that assist us in processing and/or otherwise fulfilling related transactions and services that you have requested. We will share your Personal Information related to those transactions with these third parties.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: Third-party service providers carry out tasks on our behalf for business operations. These tasks include processing product or service orders, handling deliveries, managing communications, conducting data analysis, supporting marketing efforts, offering search and link services (including sponsored results), managing payments, distributing content, assessing and monitoring credit risk, and delivering customer support. While these external partners have access to the Personal Information necessary to fulfill their roles, they are restricted from using it for unrelated purposes. Omantel may also consider third-party service providers to assist in managing and processing outstanding payments related to your account.
  • Business Transactions and Transfer: Omantel may consider corporate transactions such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, or similar transaction. In such instances, we may transfer or allow access to information to enable the assessment and undertaking of that transaction. If we buy or sell any business or assets, personal data may be transferred to third parties involved in the transaction.
  • Other Parties: Including Digital Partners whose services you proceed to use through the Omantel App, Website, or other channels, in respect of whom you have given your implicit or explicit consent.
  • Our Affiliates: We may also disclose your Personal Information with Omantel’s affiliates to manage your relationship with us and to assist them in reaching out to you in relation to their programs or campaigns (including marketing and sales), to process any queries or requests you may make and for other legitimate business purposes. Our Affiliates may Process the Personal Information we share in a manner consistent with this Privacy Notice. Omantel will continue to ensure that your personal information is protected, and we will provide any impacted users with notice before any personal data is transferred or subject to a different privacy policy.

3.6 Retention and Disposal of Your Personal Information

We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the telecommunication subscription and/or related services, or for other essential purposes such as to handle or respond to any complaints, queries, requests, or to exercise your rights or concerns relating to the telecommunication subscription and/or related services as legally required. Your personal information may also be retained so that we can continue to improve your experience with us and ensure that you receive telecommunication subscription related services.

We will actively review the personal information we hold and anonymize it. To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, the purposes for which we process the personal information and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

3.7 What if Personal Data Provided by You is Incomplete?

Where indicated (for example in telecommunication subscription enrolment, update, or correction forms), it is obligatory to provide your personal data to enable us to process your application for telecommunication subscription and/or its services. Should you decline to provide such obligatory personal data, we may not be able to process your application or provide you with telecommunication subscription and/or its services.

3.8 Transfer of Your Personal Data Outside Oman

In specific situations, Omantel may need to transfer your personal information outside Oman in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. When such transfers occur, Omantel will implement suitable technical, organizational, and contractual measures to safeguard your data throughout its lifespan.

Additionally, Omantel will ensure that you are informed of your rights regarding data transfers and provide mechanisms for you to exercise these rights in accordance with applicable laws.

4 Your Rights

You have rights in relation to the processing of your personal information which you can exercise at any time, in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations. We have provided an overview of these rights below together with what this entails for you.

4.1 Right to Confirmation and Access

You have the right to be provided with clear, transparent, and easily understandable information about your authentication records, in accordance with conditions set by Omantel.

4.2 Right to Correction

You have the right to correct, update, or block your personal information at any time.

4.3 Right to Obtain Copy

You have the right to obtain a copy of your processed personal information.

4.4 Right to Revoke Consent

You have the right to revoke your consent to the processing of your personal information, without prejudice to the processing that occurred prior to the revocation, subject to the provision of service requirements and legal obligations for data retention.

4.5 Right to Transfer

You have the right to transfer your personal data to another controller.

4.6 Right to Breach Notification

You have the right to be notified of any breach or infringement of your personal information, as well as the actions taken in this regard.

We will respond to a Verifiable Consumer Request in 45 days in accordance with Oman PDPL. Should we require more time; we will notify you of the extension period and the reason for the extension in writing. To the extent possible, we will provide you with your personal information in a format that you can share with other businesses.

5 Security of your information

To protect the privacy of personal information you communicate to us, we maintain physical, electronic, procedural safeguards, and implement comprehensive security measures and protocols in connection with the collection, processing, disclosure, secure retention and storage of personal data. Our Privacy Control procedures mean that we validate your identity before we disclose personal information to you. We restrict access to your personal information to those employees who require that information to provide benefits or services to you. In addition, we are ISO/IEC 27001 (Information Security Management System) and ISO/IEC 27701 (Privacy Information Management Standard) certified for important systems. While we strive to update our security controls as per latest standards, we also provide regular trainings to our employees about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your personal data. We also bind our partners through contracts to ensure safety and security of your data as per global standards.
